Faces of Dead Women

Written by: Joshua Nelson |   Directed by: Joshua Nelson |  Genre: Drama-Thriller

From Joshua Nelson comes a film that packs a little more than what is at first thought. Faces Of Dead Women follows a group of women getting counseling because, at some point, they have been raped. The testimonials are pretty chilling and very believable. At first, I thought this was a documentary maybe taken from real stories which were used as the foundation, but fiction or non-fiction, this film is a creeper.

As the story continued, it wasn’t long before dramatized elements were added to make this film seem all the more real. I couldn’t help but think of the

Unsolved Mysteries format or a similar one. As the counselor continued talking to her clients, another player was soon added to the fold. A man. A man who embodied the very problem all these women were trying to recover from. A creepy rapist. And when I say creepy, I mean the cliche creeper. I kept expecting the mustache and creeper van to make an appearance. This man was also a client, and I couldn’t help but think there was more in store for me. That Faces Of Dead Women still had a card to play, and I was right. There comes the point when even the shrink has a kind of breakdown, and we quickly learn that Joshua Nelson’s film is much more than a collection of heartbreaking interviews and anger-inspiring dialog. The “thriller” genre begins to take hold as Faces Of Dead Women goes into the bonus round. This wasn’t a doc or true-crime reenactment film. Even though it very easily could have been.

Without going into specifics, this movie does a great job at letting you think it’s one thing and becoming another. At the same time, the impact of the film could have been achieved without the thriller hook. The acting is really that good. I’m not saying the kick in the face ending wasn’t really awesome, because it was; I’m simply saying that as far as the acting and stories go, this was a great film.

This one was a half an hour of cringe and another 10 minutes of? I guess you will have to watch the movie to find out. But the fresh handle on the presentation and the surprise ending make Faces Of Dead Women a high-scoring production. Thank you for taking the time to read this piece, four stars.
